Osaze Odemwingie left Nigeria's De Vere Village Hotel in Watford on Monday night to return to Birmingham.The forward has been struggling with an ankle injury over the last two months, and has now decided to go for surgery.Odemwingie spoke with the West Brom doctors and was examined by the Nigeria medical team and an agreement was reached for him to have surgery immediately on his ankle.
The operation has been scheduled for Wednesday in Amsterdam, and the striker will fly out on Wednesday morning.
"It is his career on the line, and it is very important for us to put the health and welfare of our players first above everything else," Nigeria coach Samson Siasia said. "Osaze has been playing with painkillers and after speaking with the doctor, we all agreed that he should have his surgery as soon as possible."
