Lady Gaga first to have nine million Twitter followers
I was hopeful – Ama K Abebrese, 2011 AMAA Best Actress
According to Ama, she was honoured to be nominated along with some of the best actresses in Africa; and even more excited that her first lead role earned her one of the most coveted prizes in African cinema. She also commented that the win only signifies more hard work and that she wouldn’t let her new status as the ‘best actress in Africa’ get into her head.
2011 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) Best Actress in a Leading Role, Ama K Abebrese says she was hopeful that she would win the award which was recently held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Although Ama couldn’t attend the ceremony because she is currently filming in Ho, Volta Region, she monitored events in Bayelsa and when she received a call from the Ghanaian delegation confirming that she had won the nod, she was overwhelmed with joy.
Shakira to release perfume
Shakira is the latest artist to release a fragrance. The Colombian superstar has bottled a new perfume called S by Shakira. The scent will hit stores in September and will range in price from 17 to 35 dollars. The fragrance’s signature notes are bright jasmine, sandalwood and an oriental dream housed in a luminous bottle that evokes an oriental dancer.
STATEMENT:
Shakira said, “The type of women who feel a connection with this fragrance would be independent and strong, but also a woman with a great capacity to love and a strong sense of who they are. It’s for a woman who believes in herself.”

Today, marks the 3rd Anniversary of Jay-z and Beyonce, who tied the knot in a secret ceremony on April 4, 2008. The power couple is believed to be celebrating in the Bahamas where they were spotted over the weekend.
For fans that are bracing themselves for ‘BEY Season’, according to MTV, it may happen as early as this summer. Photos of Beyonce wearing 70′s garb while at a cheap hotel in Jersey circulated earlier this week, and it has been confirmed that it is for the first video off of her upcoming album. Q: Did u hear d gist making d rounds dat a lady in Abuja just delivered twins for ur husband?
A: Yes I did
Q: Rumor has it that 9ice went into that affair because you went into a new relationship, how true is that?
A; That is not true, he has been in that relationship before we seperated. In fact the day I found out about it, I confronted her over the phone and she reported me to him. He came to fight me because of that and later called his parents (Alhaji Azeez Akande, Tawa Oshodi) to come and pack me and my son out of the house.
Q: Some ave alleged dat she was d one who broke ur marriage. Is this true?
A: yes she was the main reason along with issues with his family. All that ruggedman story was rubbish, I'm not even attracted to ruggedman cos he is like a brother to me. Aside that, his manager was feeding his parents false stories about me cos he wanted me out of the picture cos he thot I wanted his job and also his brother Dr Wale Akande convinced them I was after his property because I stopped d brother from continuing with building our house after noticing some monies where unaccounted for. Mind you I met my husband when he was struggling, none of his family members sent him then. We were staying in my family house and his apt with Jahbless in Ikorodu and I loved him regardless, so what property could I have been after? I toiled night and day with him so why would I want to cheat him. The parents would come to the house to fight me, yelling curses, trying to frustrate me out of the house, the mother tore my dress one day and I ran for mine and my sons safty. This caused a lot of tension in our relationship but instead of him to stand by me he ran to another woman.
Q: What was ur reaction to the twins news wen you heard it? Were u angry? Did u call him to ask about that news of a woman having a child for him?
A: Yes I was understandably angry because from day 1 he knows I don't want polygamy for my children if I can avoid it and also cos I felt he shud have divorced me first and married her before engaging in such. Like what example is he setting for his son. Lastly I felt if he would impregnate anyone it should not be the woman who broke our home.
Q: Why have u been quiet all this while about your marriage break up?
A: I tried very hard to protect him even when people rubbished me. I never said ok he was the one who messed up because I felt he would be wise and consider my sons interest, when taking life changing decisions that could affect Zion. A part of me wanted to believe he would never put his own bloods future at stake for cheap thrils. I changed my mind about talking when I read a recent paper and noticed his manager was already trying to twist things to make it look like he moved on and got someone pregnant cos I'm engaged, I'm NOT engaged, so I just felt enough is enough, I don't know why they must always bringg my name up to justify their mistakes. I had to ask myself, Why am I protecting a man who continues to make me look bad to protect himself. I felt it was time to be true to myself and quit deceiving myself that he will soon feel remorse for his actions.
Q: Was it because you wanted reconciliation?
A: No, I just felt I should protect him because I guess a stupid part of me still loved him and felt he would come to his senses and at least do right by my son even if we never reconcile. At d end of the day I'm human
and have emotions too, guess I never predicted things would get this bad.
Q: For the very 1st time, can you tell me what broke your marriage?
A: Simple: 3 things broke my marriage: His family's interferance, His Manager's interference and His affair with Vicky Godis
Q: Whose fault, your or his fault?
A: I can't say I was perfect, but I NEVER cheated on him. I was pregnant and later nursing the entire time we were married. Also, before I got married I knew what being loyal is, I also knew there is no way I would ever cheat on my husband. Its not my way. Yeah I would get angry when he cheated on me, I felt it was a normal reaction when you love someone and they are doing things to hurt you but still I never left him. The seperation was not my idea. My son was 11 months old, a week before his 1st birthday, his parents threw us out. My son spent his birthday in a hotel. I was sitting in my house when his parents came, they packed my things and my sons things into my car, I have pictures I took as evidence and I drove off with my son to a friends hotel in VI where I stayed for 3 weeks. Meanwhile he was with Vicky in abuja while it was happening.
Q: Is it true you have asked for Divorce
A: Yes, I have. He is yet to file. If he is so sure he doesn't want to be married he should have no problems divorcig me. Allow me move on and give my son a family life he deserves.
Q: Do u see room for reconciliation?
A: I am not God so I can't say yes or no but he has hurt me too deeply to just go back. It would take a lot of healing, although iv moved on forgetting the pains is not that easy. At the end of the day, only God know where our future is headed.
Q: Some accuse you of forcing yourself on him and that you are older than him and that he couldnt just say no
A: I never forced myself on him. He did all the chasing, even when I said I can't marry a musician, he never stopped, he kept assuring me that if he got famous he would not change and I trusted him. What people don't know is we got engaged in November 2007, even before Gongo Aso became a hit, some said its because I was pregnant, that is not true, I got pregnant 5 months after we picked a wedding date. I am not older than him, that report is also false. He is older than me.
Q: Can you let us into how u fell in love wit 9ice? Who toasted who? Did u make the 1st move or he did?
A: He toasted me, I resisted in the begining because I did not want a musician boyfriend, I later agreed because I felt he was sweet and sincere. How he changed so much is what I'm not sure of. Maybe bad advisers around him.
Q How did you feel when the news broke that you are dating ruggedman/ Did u ever date him?
A: I have said this hundreds of times, I Never dated Ruggedman, I was never caught with Ruggedman or any other man. At first I did not take it serious because I knew it was a lie. Iv known ruggedman longer than any guy in the industry, we have always been friends but never dated. Till date, we have been and still are like brother and sister. That ruggedman story was a terrible attempt to destroy my reputation. I'm not loose, I don't sleep around, I don't jump from man to man, I know the concequences of cheating so why would I engage in it. Why would I build with a man, when I know I still want to play around. Why would I destroy my home carelessly. I'm not stupid. That makes no sense to me. I thank God I have a fighting spirit because I did not let the lies or insults bring me down.
Q: How did u meet 9ice? For how long did you date before marriage?
A: I first saw him in Oct 2006, he came to back ruggedman up at Gbenga Adeyinkas Anniversary. We dint hook up till the following year. I went back to the states and we would chat online and talk on the phone for hours. We got married in July 2008.
Q: How true is the story that you were too overbearing on him?
A: I do not think I was overbearing. I wanted the best for him so yeah I may push him to strive for the best. I don't think that's a bad thing or something worth breaking a marriage over.
Q: How come it didn't work out
A: It takes 2 to make a marriage work, if one party insist they dont want it to work it will cripple any effort made by anyone. The mistake I made was entering with my heart and not my head. I should have taken his family background seriously and made 100% sure he had the same family values as me.
Q: Let's get to know about ur growing up years Where were you born?
A: Though my family decend is Ogun state, I'm a lagos baby. My childhood was fun, grew up and only child
but had a lot of cousins to play with. Let's say I had a sound childhood.
Q: How about your growing up years and Schools attended?
A: I shuttled between america and naija as a child and till now so I attended primary n secondary in both countries but finished my university education at california state university northridge
Q: Having studid in the US, what professional/education courses did you take?
A: I studied video digital art
Q: Your parents how did they influence you, It seems you are closer to your mum?
A: they taught me to be very open in all I do. Yes my mum and I are close, shez always been there for me.
Q: Your career choice, Why showbiz?
A; Showbiz is something I stumbled into since about 1999. I started it as a hobby and eventually turned it into a business. I'm happy I did.
Q: You are into Modeling Music and Beauty how did u find yourself in all these?
A: life has drawn me into everything I do now. Something always transpires that leads me to my calling. Plus I'm a business minded person, very driven and don't mind getting my hands wet in new ventures.
Q: How do you cope with managing artistes? People say that can be wild
A: I am blesed with artists that don't engage in bad activities so I count myself lucky.
Q: Tell us about your label. How many artistes do you manage?
A: I currently manage three artists; Adol, Zara and Olamide and all three are focused people. Olamide and Adol just released their albums titled Rapsodi and Orin, respectively. Zara is currently working on her debut album
Q: Did you ever manage 9ice How did you cope fitting the 2 roles?
A: I took care of his international relations as well as some PR. I did it because I wanted him to succeed not because he hired mee or was paying me. Its what I love doing plus I was very passionate about his music so it came easy
Q: Marrying a star means u coping with his female admirers. How did u cope?
A: Well, I'm in the industry as well so I know it comes with the territory. It didn't bother me so far he kept it professional.
Q: What are your full names? Toni Payne sounds oyinbo, How come?
A: (laughs) Toni is short for Antonia and Payne is my last name. My yoruba name is Seun
Q: How come you and his manager don't get along?
A: he disliked me because he felt I wanted his job. I believe it was ignorance disturbing him. I wasn't interested in his job. I just wanted to be helpful to the process by contributing my knowledge. Guess he knew he was horrible at his job hence the insecurities. For me I dint care who managed him so far the person was doing a great job.
Q: When the news broke dat you were marrying 9ice in 2008 many felt you rushed him. Did you?
A: in 2008, no we did not rush. We were engaged before he got popular so because the marriage took place around the time people started appreciating him, they felt it was a new decision when it wasn't.
Q: Then Zion came isn't dat a rush?
No, I was of age and so was he. We discussed it before, its just because everything was happening around the same time people wanted to know more about him. It wasn't a new decision at all or something that just happened. No.
Q: Is it true that this lady that had kids for 9ice has always been 9ices girlfriend before you came into the picture?
A: (laughs) No, that is not true. My husband met her a few months before our seperation. I believe in September 2009 or thereabouts. Her name is Vicky "Bukky" Godis. She works at ECOWAS in Abuja.
Q: What did being a mother change in you
A: it made me more tolerant at the same time more protective. A mother son love is unique. Very special feeling.
Q: Any regrets about how your marriage went?
A:In life there are always two sides to things. People never gave me a chance before judging me. I received so many insults, hate mail over something I did not do. It was painful knowing I was innocent yet a lot were quick to crucify me. Ill just say to those who judged me blindly, may God forgive you. Next time find out facts before castigating an innocent person. In Nigeria women are usually judged unfairly and this act has to stop. Its very very unfair

Snake dies from silicone poisoning after biting model's breast during photoshoot
But surgically enhanced Israeli model Orit Fox got more than she bargained for when the massive boa constrictor took objection to her over familiarity and reacted by biting into her breast.
However, it was the snake who came off worse because, while Ms Fox need a tetanus shot in hospital, the reptile later died from silicone poisoning.
Getting friendly: Ms Fox allowed the snake to crawl around her neck on the photoshoot in Tel Aviv
Too close for comfort: Ms Fox decides to kiss the snake but it seems to think she is being over familiar....
The B-list model and actress initially looked comfortable during the shoot in Tel Aviv, wrapping the huge snake around her legs, waist and neck while doing her best to look sexy.
In a figure hugging red and white striped dress, which revealed maximum cleavage, she gamely tried to take their bonding to the next level by licking the snake's face.
As she maneurvered the animal into position for the 'kiss' Ms Fox loosened her grip on its neck, and after being licked the reptile reacted angrily.
It aimed straight for Fox's prized assets and sunk its teeth deep into her left breast.

Ouch: The distressed model tries to pull the snake off her but it has latched on to her tightly
She let out a high-pitched scream, as did a voice off camera who appeared to be directing the shoot.
An assistant rushed in to help her pull the snake off and after a few seconds of struggle the creature released its grip.
The peroxide-blonde model was rushed to a nearby hospital and given a tetanus shot.
However, the snake wasn't so lucky and died from silicone poisoning.
Students @ Ashbourne College to raise funds for Japan & savethechildren (NGO)
The students at Ashbourne college have felt pity on the victims of the On the 11th of March 2011 Earthquake...A speech was writhing by 2 students to the victims and to the Government of Japan,One was a Japanese name NATSUKI SUKI TAKAO & a Nigerian My own girlfriend and the love of my life Yvonne Chetty White...The rest is the speech:
''So I've realised that I have not been clear about what this money is all going to. On the 11th of March 2011, a magnitude 9 (the biggest in Japan history) earthquake hit off the coast of Japan. This already caused detrimental damage to the cities most near to the site of the earthquake. To make things worse, the earthquake caused a tsunami to hit only 5 minutes after the earthquake, in a city in Japan. This gave the people in the city no time to run away. Consequently, the death toll is now up to 10,000 and rising. Since then, the earthquake and tsunami has also caused the threat of a nuclear meltdown, and making millions of people evacuate. Most do not even have a place to evacuate to, or has no way of doing so as the whole area is short of petrol, food, water and electricity. To put the cherry on top, it is snowing in that area. I have been watching the Japanese news on the internet everyday since the event, and saw how many parents are still looking for their children and that many children are looking for their parents. Save the Children (http://www.savethechildren.in/index.php) is an organisation that was one of the first to pay attention to the events in Japan and offered help. They concentrate on the children that are affected. This money will be funding this organisation. Since I am from Japan my self, and feel slightly guilty for not being in my own country while all the others are suffering, I have taken Gina's wonderful offer to help raise money for Save the Children.
So far the outlook is good concerning the donations. We have raised an estimated 500 pounds so far, so if we keep on going at this rate, we will be able to hit the target of 1000. Thank you so much for all your cooperation guys, and I think that we can do this. All donations and any help will be appreciated.

We are hosting an event next Thursday to raise even more money than we have at the moment, to donate as much money as possible. As you have probably seen from the posters around school (the information has slightly been changed), if we raise 1000 pounds by the day of the event, Mike Kirby is willing to come into school wearing a pikachu suit. Don't worry, it fits. This is the one and only time that you will get to see this, so please donate. Or else, this whole event will be ruined. I know 1000 pounds is a very high goal, but we are looking to raise as much as possible and at this rate, I think that we are going to be able to get there. So please keep the donations coming! And thank you so much to all those who have already donated!! But it doesn't mean you cannot donate again! Five pounds off of your allowance won't make you poor.
There are going to be some more performers including John, James, Lee and hopefully Fabio, so there is that to be excited for as well. It will hopefully take place in the library, and there will be an entrance fee. The exact price and time is yet to be confirmed but I will update this as soon as I know.

Beyonce Spotted Out

“Diarrhea of the Mouth” Attack At AMAA Awards Nite
The actor started off with his comment about gays and their “weird” ways. “There is something wrong. It’s just wrong.” It was Co-presenter, Ikpe-Etim who cut him short saying, “Okay, that’s enough. I must apologize for my colleague. There is nothing wrong with being happy.”
The Co-presenter did not know what he had in stock for her until he told her to “shut up.” And capping it with an onstage banter, asking her to come to his room later and she asked what for, he replied, “You’re a Calabar girl, you should know, now!”
As if that is not enough, he switched from being a presenter to Women Rights activist, defending Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s weight gain talks accusing women of “popping pills” to stay slim.
Jim Iyke flops as host of AMAA, covers up with gay bashing and defending colleagues!
From the moment Jim and his co-host, Nse Ikpe-Etim were introduced on stage, Jim appeared confused and clueless on what to say. It was very obvious that he kept on forgetting some stuff that he was scripted to say and sometimes the prompting from his co-host couldn’t even help. To turn things around the actor turned on his usual ‘loose cannon’ personality to some painful consequences. Jim’s hosting was a bit unrefined and each time he appeared on stage, the audience could expect some bad jokes, sexual innuendos, or an attack on the Nigerian press. The only thing he got right throughout the show was his choice of clothing. Change after change, he stepped out in outfits that brought out his ‘swag’ and complimented the beauty and grace of his co-host Nse.
According to inside sources, desperate attempts were made by the producers of the ceremony to control some of Jim Iyke’s utterances on stage, including his comment about not understanding gay people. He asked why men now were tight jeans and hold purses. He explained that he didn’t understand why some people have to be gay and concluded that for him, he thinks something is ‘wrong’ somewhere. His co-host, Nse tried to control the situation by asking him to leave that subjected matter alone, and cleverly suggested that Jim meant something else when she concluded that episode by saying, “there is nothing wrong with being happy”. However, the strong headed Jim commented that he would revisit the subject later in the night but he never did.
Jim wasn’t a total flop however, he had some good moments on stage when he engaged in some witty and unrehearsed exchanges with Nse. Although some of those exchanges were not suitable for the nominees in the ‘Best Child Actor’ and ‘Best Young Actor’ categories of the AMAA, most of the time Jim could be excused for being the ‘Nollywood Bad Boy’ that he is touted to be.
The two hosts, collectively could have done a much better job if they had dropped some of the Nigerian idiosyncrasies for a more universal presentation since the audience was African/ global and not just a Nigerian audience. This year’s AMAA saw the biggest participation from the rest of Africa and it would have been better if the content from the hosts was geared towards that growth; hence there should have been less pidgin and Nigerian lingo and less Nigerian eccentrics. One of the first statements that Jim and Nse made when they got on stage was to ask “where are our Nollywood stars?” And even worse, they went on to mention some names.
Let’s see who gets the nod to host next year’s African Movie Academy Awards but for goodness sake it shouldn’t be Jim Iyke ever again!
Jimmy Jean-Louis storms African Movie Academy Awards in style and shares his experiences!
All three of the films that Jimmy starred in won awards on the night, and each time the winner was announced, Jimmy accompanied him on stage to pick up the award. ‘In America: The Story of the Soul Sisters’ by Rahman Oladigbolu (Nigeria/USA) won Best Film for African Abroad and ‘Precipice’ by Julius Amedume (Ghana/UK) won Best Diaspora Short Film. Sinking sands won three awards including Best Costume, Best Actress in a Leading Role, and Best Screenplay and since the director of the movie couldn’t attend, Jimmy picked up the awards on her behalf. Therefore, Jimmy got on stage for five times – more than any other person on the night!
The actor comments on his experience at the African answer to the Oscars: “It was a great experience to mix with the African filmmakers. There is a real desire to move forward. The state of Bayelsa showed a lot of dedication to promote the event.”
The actor, who was particularly impressed because the award show showcased a wide range of performers, also added that: “The world is waiting for good African movies, let’s make Africa proud, let’s tell our stories, and let’s give the world quality movies.”
Jimmy however commented that he would have liked the actual award ceremony to be a lot shorter. According to his observations some aspects of the ceremony could have been better. “They don’t have to reward all the categories during the ceremony; they could have a pre-award show for some of the categories. Performers should not perform more than one song each. Presenters should have fewer jokes and go straight to the point. Movies clips should be shorter. Red Carpet could be more organized.”

Hiplife duo, Ruff N Smooth has signed a new record deal with Canada-based label, Hype Records. The deal follows the expiration of a one year management contract with the group’s former label, Empire Entertainment. The signing ceremony was organized before a selected number of pressmen to formerly sign on the duo, made up of Clement Baah Foh (Akhan) and Ricky Osei Agyeman (Bullet) to Hype Records for the next three years.
Canada based Hype Records was established by Mr. Opoku Asafo Adjei Agyemang in 2009 with the simple mission of getting the best talents from West Africa and equipping them musically onto the international market. The label hopes to set the proper structures in the Ghanaian music industry with the aim that within the next five years, at least one Hype artiste will be a household name nationwide.
Speaking at the signing, Mr. Opoku Agyeman said the signing “is a story of boldness, innovation and creativity that is going to capture the imagination of Ghanaians and the entire world. It is larger than life story that is going to take Ruff N Smooth as a known Afro-Pop group to the international arena.”
He further added that Ruff N Smooth “are hungry and share the fundamental vision of Hype records which is to make quality music that could be consumed anywhere in the world. Hype Records and Ruff N Smooth come together today to take Ghanaian music to the next level.”
He said it is their inner most believe that the new label will carry their dream of becoming a worldwide house hold name as far as it can go adding, “this we know for sure that Hype Records will be able to climb with us the ladder of hard work with effective management.”
The signing was also attended by representatives of Hype Records and Empire Entertainment. Ruff N Smooth is getting ready to release their second album under the record label followed by an international tour that will begin in Ghana.

Joining their Ghanaian counterparts on the night are the much sought after Nigerian acts, 2face Idibia and Ice Prince of the smash hit, ‘Oleku’ fame. Also representing the matured generation on the night will be the legendary Highlife singer, CK Mann with his evergreen music.
Charter House and the Planning Committee of the GMA have promised that measures are being put in place to ensure that everyone who comes to the Dome of the Accra International Conference Center to watch their stars pick up awards on April 9 is treated like a celebrity.
